Presentation

A vibrant and adventurous expression of Corsican polyphony, enriched by Mediterranean sounds and bold arrangements.

L’Alba’s music is distinguished by its Mediterranean influences, voices deeply rooted in tradition and an eclectic range of instruments. The care devoted to composition and arrangement gives its polyphonic songs a truly distinctive character.

The singers and musicians of L’Alba are fond of saying that Corsican musical tradition is not fixed in time, but alive, constantly evolving and in motion. In recent years, the group has gathered an increasingly broad collective around its core members. Exceptionally talented musicians have joined the ensemble and contributed to its musical world, including Régis Gizavo, whose enthusiasm for taking part in this adventure was always evident.

The Indian harmonium, bass and guitar form the foundation of L’Alba’s music, while improvising soloists on violin and wind instruments incorporate into their phrasing the characteristic melismas of ancestral polyphonic singing, a tradition they also practise themselves. The vocal polyphonic ensemble supports the lead melody while remaining faithful to the aesthetics of traditional Corsican singing.

Every L’Alba concert is an invitation to travel. Each performance is different, carrying the audience towards new horizons through a wide variety of musical influences and an extensive sound palette. This musical journey consists mainly of original compositions, together with a selection of traditional pieces performed a cappella by three voices, in keeping with Corsica’s ancestral agro-pastoral tradition.

Step into the world of Corsican musical culture by attending a concert of polyphonic singing.
