Terra Mea brings both ancient and contemporary songs to life, celebrating a musical culture that has evolved over the centuries in Corsica, shaped by the island’s history, popular traditions, and sacred and secular music.
Each Terra Mea concert is a journey through polyphony, inviting the audience to be carried away by haunting melodies and harmonies rooted in both modal and tonal traditions. Through a repertoire of monodic and polyphonic songs, sacred and secular alike, the singers reveal the many forms of Corsican vocal expression.
Psalms, love laments, the exodus of Corsicans during the First World War, the protection of natural and cultural heritage, human rights, solidarity and scenes from pastoral life are among the many themes explored. Each song is introduced and placed in context, allowing the audience to gain a deeper understanding of the spirit and soul of the Corsican people.
At times tinged with tragedy, the voices call out to one another and come together in a deeply moving performance filled with powerful emotion.
